A detached garage build starts with nothing more than an empty spot on this lot, and ends as one of the most-used buildings on the property. This one went from a bare foundation to a fully sided, two-bay garage with a dedicated workshop space, built from the ground up.

The Project
The garage was built new from a poured foundation, framed with engineered roof trusses, sheathed, and wrapped before siding and trim went on. The finished structure carries two separate garage bays: one accessed from each end with a man door and a run of windows along the side wall bringing natural light into a workshop area at one end of the building. Light blue vinyl siding, a white-trimmed gable roof, and matching soffit and fascia were chosen to tie the garage visually to the main house it sits alongside. A gravel drive and apron lead up to both bay openings, with a poured concrete floor inside.
The Features
The workshop end of the garage is set up as its own dedicated space, with a bank of windows lining the wall for daylight and a separate man door for access without opening the full bay door. Exterior lighting is mounted at both garage bay openings and above the side door. Inside, the concrete floor runs the full length of the building, giving enough room for vehicles, equipment, and workshop use side by side. The roof structure uses engineered trusses for a clear-span interior, and the exterior finishes – siding, trim, and shingle color – were matched to the existing home rather than treated as a standalone outbuilding.
Serving Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, and the Surrounding Area
A detached garage build adds exactly the kind of space a lot of homes are missing. Room for vehicles, equipment, and a workshop that doesn’t have to compete with the house itself. Steve Wirtz Builders builds detached garages throughout the Fond du Lac and Oshkosh area, from foundation to final trim, matched to the style of the home they sit beside.
