Steve Wirtz Builders completed this entertaining deck build in Fond du Lac, WI. Entertaining outdoors takes more than a table and a few chairs. It takes a space built to handle the whole gathering at once. This project gave the backyard exactly that: a stunning gathering space, linked by stairs down to a patio built for grilling, swimming, and everything in between.
The Project
This deck sits off the back of the home at the main-floor level, built up on posts to leave storage space below. This deck was built to host: lounge seating on one end, a full dining table on the other, with a staircase leading straight down to the patio and pool. The elevation gives an open view over the pool and backyard while keeping the grills and storage shed tucked underneath, out of the way but still close at hand.
The Features
The deck is built in pressure-treated pine, with chamfered rail caps and boxed corner posts along the railing. Tall poles anchored to the deck framing carry string lights across the length of the space, and a wind chime hangs from one of the corner posts. The staircase off the connected platform leads straight down to a paver patio, where the grills and pool sit within easy reach of the stairs.
